The exceedingly rapid Taycan may have only gone on sale last September, but in bringing new tech updates for 2021 model year cars, Porsche’s engineers have somehow managed to make it quicker still.
Yep, apparently battery optimisation now means that the top-spec Turbo S will do 0-124mph in just 9.6 seconds – undercutting the ‘old’ car by two tenths of a second. As ever, Porsche claims that the Taycan is able to repeat that feat again and again without a drop in performance, and it’s also claiming that the updated Turbo S will set a quarter-mile time of 10.7 seconds (down a tenth from when the car was launched).
That’s not all for tech upgrades either. Say you’re plugged into an Ionity 800-volt charger but fancy an extended coffee break, you’ll now be able to restrict the charging speed (for example from 270kW to 200kW) in order to extend the battery’s overall service life. Or, if you’ve got solar panels at home, the Taycan will now recognise once it’s got to a minimum charge level and will then only consume solar energy. Neat.
There’ll also be a head-up display fitted to 2021 cars, and the new Smartlift function will allow Taycans equipped with air suspension to raise themselves higher for speedbumps or particularly tricky driveways.
It wouldn’t be a model year update without a few new colour choices either, would it? To that end, Porsche is now offering Mahogany Metallic, Frozenberry Metallic, Cherry Metallic, Coffee Beige Metallic, Chalk, Neptune Blue and Ice Grey Metallic as exterior colours, plus ‘Blackberry’ as a new shade for the interior.
