Apple Music launches two new radio stations

Today, Apple has announced two new radio stations are arriving to Apple Music. In addition, the music service’s original radio station, Beats 1, will be renamed to “Apple Music 1”.

Apple Music Hits is the first new station that plays hits from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s with hourly blocks of different recording artists hosting and offering commentary. The other new station is called Apple Music Country. All three live radio stations are free to listen to, you just need to log in with an Apple ID. Accompanying interviews and video clips are free to consume as well.

Now, Apple Music radio provides an unparalleled global platform for artists across all genres to talk about, create, and share music with their fans, and this is just the beginning. We will continue to invest in live radio and create opportunities for listeners around the world to connect with the music they love.

This is only the beginning of Apple’s investment into radio. Digital music has made traditional radio show its age but bringing back the format and adding more radio stations proves that Apple knows how it can modernize and revive a slowly dying medium. Will old-fashioned (passive listening) radio stations catch on again or is everyone set on the instant gratification of listening to exactly what they want to?
